Manipura: The Solarplexus Chakra in Everyday Life

• What are your greatest talents?

• How do you show yourself to this world?

• When and where are you full of energy?

All these questions (and more) relate to the Solarplexus Chakra, the third Chakra on our Chakra Journey. The third chakra is our strength center, the center of willpower and showing us fully to the world. When this chakra is blocked, we might feel low of energy, shy or distrust our talents. When it is in balance, we stand up for ourselves, present ourselves and our ideas confidently and reclaim what is ours.

What does the Solarplexus Chakra mean in everyday life?

The solarplexus chakra is the 3rd Chakra of the 7 main energy centers in our body: Manipura (Sanskrit: मणिपूर, IAST: Maṇipūra, English: “city of jewels”)

The solarplexus is the fire center. This being the fire of digestion, but also the fire and passion we have for being in this world, participating actively and showing us in our own unique way. In early childhood the solarplexus chakra develops, when the child starts loudly proclaiming what it wants and starts getting very upset, when it doesn´t get what it wants. It´s about proclaiming ‘I am here and I´m ready to take on the world!’ and saying ‘yes’ and ‘no’ with conviction! This chakra is about showing yourself to the world with all that you´ve got! It´s about decision making, trust in oneself and action. Self-esteem, self-confidence and standing up for oneself are important for the activity of the solarplexus chakra!

The thrid chakra is especially influence by shame.

If one-on-one relationships where the trigger for the second chakra, the trigger for the third chakra is our ego, and interactions with the world. This includes our work environment, how we express our talents and if we stand up for ourselves in front of others! Everyone has a unique gift that brings healing and energy to the world. This gift is to be shared, so it can contribute to the larger collective that we are all part of. No more holding back, playing small and doubting yourself. It´s all about carving out your unique path according to what you want, what you need and what you are here to offer to the world!

If the third chakra is imbalanced, it can lead to toxicity, anger, stomach problems, overly active ego and being easily upset, often pointing the finger at others. Also controlling, anxiety and sleeping disorders relate to it.

The third chakra is important as it regulates our overall energy! The more energy we give, the more we receive back, but only, if we nurture the right energy inside ourselves – namely our true talents and gifts. It´s a two-fork path this third chakra, as it constantly challenges us to follow the path of the soul versus the path of the ego and the mind that is seeking external appreciation.

The element of the chakra is fire, the sense that corresponds to it is sight. The color is yellow, the beej mantra is Ram.

The body parts related to it are: stomach, liver, spleen, solarplexus, middle back.
We can work with the root chakra through yoga asanas, crystals, essential oils, food, color therapy and Chakra Healing.
